ശ്രീബുദ്ധൻ ( A SHORT HISTORY)

സിദ്ധാർത്ഥൻ എന്നാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥനാമഥേയം. ഗൗതമനെന്നും ശാക്യമുനി എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.ലോക ചരിത്രത്തെ ഏറ്റവും സ്വാധീനിച്ച നൂറു വ്യക്തികളുടെ ഹ്രസ്വ ചരിത്രമാണ് ദ ഹൻഡ്രഡ് എന്ന പേരിൽ മൈക്കിൾ ഹാർട്ട് 1978ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച പുസ്തകം . ഈ പട്ടികയിൽ നാലാം സഥാനം ഗൗതമ ബുദ്ധനാണ്.

പേരിനു പിന്നിൽ

വജ്ജി സംഘത്തിലെ ശാക്യഗണത്തിലാണ്‌ (പാലിയിൽ ശക) ബുദ്ധൻ ജനിച്ചത്. ശാക്യവംശത്തിൽ പിറന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ശാക്യമുനി എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു. ഗോതമ എന്നായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബപ്പേര്‌. അതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഗൗതമൻ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെട്ടു.

ചിന്തകൾ

മനുഷ്യജീവിതം ദുഃഖവും ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളും കൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞതാണെന്നും, മനുഷ്യന്റെ ആശകളും ഒടൂങ്ങാത്ത ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളുമാണ്‌ ഈ ദുഃഖങ്ങൾക്കു കാരണം എന്നും ബുദ്ധൻ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു. ഈ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ ബുദ്ധൻ തൻഹ എന്നു വിളിച്ചു. എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങളിലും മിതത്വം പുലർത്തി ഈ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും മോചനം നേടണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ഉപദേശിച്ചു.

മൃഗങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള സഹജീവികളോട് ദയ കാണിക്കണമെന്നും അവരുടെ ജീവനെ ബഹുമാനിക്കണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പഠിപ്പിച്ചു. ജീവിതത്തിൽ മനുഷ്യൻ ചെയ്യുന്ന കർമ്മങ്ങളുടെ ഹലം, അവ നല്ലതോ ചീത്തയോ ആയാലും, അവ ഈ ജീവിതത്തിലും വരും ജന്മങ്ങളിലും അവനെ ബാധിക്കുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

തന്റെ ചിന്തകൾ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാ വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും എത്തിക്കുന്നതിന്‌ സാധാരണ ജനങ്ങളുടെ സംസാരഭാഷയായിരുന്ന പ്രാകൃതഭാഷയിലായിരുന്നു ഗൗതമബുദ്ധൻ തന്റെ പ്രഭാഷണങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയിരുന്നത്. തന്റെ ഭാഷണങ്ങൾ അതേപടി ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നതിനു പകരം അതിനെപ്പറ്റി ചിന്തിച്ച് വിലയിരുത്താനും അദ്ദേഹം ജനങ്ങളെ ഉദ്ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

ധർമ്മപദത്തിൽ ഇരുപത്തിനാലദ്ധ്യായങ്ങളിൽ ബുദ്ധമതത്തിന്റെ സാരം അടങ്ങിയിരിയ്ക്കുന്നു. ബുദ്ധമതം എന്നു വെച്ചാൽ ബുദ്ധൻ പ്രസംഗിച്ച പ്രകാരത്തിലുള്ള തത്ത്വങ്ങളും ആദികാലങ്ങളിൽ ധർമ്മം എന്ന വിശേഷനാമത്തോടുകൂടിയുള്ള മതവുമാകുന്നു. “പാപത്തെ ദൂരെ ത്യജിക്കുകയും, പുണ്യത്തെ എല്ലായ്പോഴും ചെയ്യുകയും, പ്രാണികളിൽ സ്നേഹം, സത്യം, ക്ഷമ, ശുദ്ധി, ഇവയോടും കൂടി ഇരിയ്ക്കുകയുമാകുന്നു” ധർമ്മം എന്നതിന്റെ സാരാർത്ഥം എന്ന് അശോകൻ പറയുന്നു.
